Horror Monastery

A single player horror campaign
Together with Kevin Schaijk we built a single player horror campaign in UDK. It is a short campaign which takes place in an abandoned monastery. I created the level design, which we then split up in two sections; the first section was built by Kevin and the second by me. Additionally I also did all the visual scripting in UDK. Kevin made the trailer for the campaign. The level was made in UDK using kismet to script all events.

The idea behind the Monastery is that the player has to find their way out of the building. The actual horror the players has to face is the building itself, as it gradually tries harder to kill the player. Doors and walls appear and disappear throughout the level, things fall down from the ceiling, entire rooms even start to rotate. There is no safety while in the building.

The images show some sketches of the design, and screenshots from inside the level and kismet (the visual scripting in UDK).

We also wrote a document describing how to progress through the campaign, and describing two set pieces in further detail. Click on the button on the right to view a PDF version.
